How to Make a Balloon Valance

how to stitch a valance
Balloon valances have a puffy, cloud-like appearance when hung above a window. Sometimes, to accentuate the fullness of the valance, they’re stuffed with newspaper or recycled grocery bags. They’re generally made of lightweight fabric, and used for a more casual look.
They’re really easy to make, a gathered balloon valance is one of the easiest selections to make when it comes to custom window treatments. It covers a wide range of widths because you can gather it, so measuring your window is a breeze.
The instructions I used for mine are really easy to follow. Here are some ideas for thrifty fabric resources you can use to make your puffy valance:
1- old blankets
2- Tshirts
3- decorativer flags
4- bed sheets
5- sweaters (draftstopper!)
6- windbreaker jackets (bright colors, fade resistant, moisture resistant)
7- terry cloth (soft for baby’s room)
8- faux fur (just plain fun, like a big caterpillar on the window!)
